After 2 consecutive 3 month trial periods, the Board has approved the extension of the pilot project for a period of one year up to April 2024. At the launch of the pilot project service, a marketing campaign was launched using google advertising and Lovin Malta portal; digital flyers and leaflets were sent to each and every operator in the area and a number of posters put up in strategic locations. The service provided by Malta Public Transport has been very satisfactory and punctual, with the mode of transport itself having the CBD emblem and name providing excellent visibility for the district and the Foundation. It is encouraging to note that demand for the service is picking up gradually and with more commercial and office premises being completed as well as more car parking spaces being made available at the temporary car-park, usage of the service is expected to continue to pick up. However, we cannot stop with our efforts to promote the service which in itself requires a change in mentality among stakeholders of the CBD. The support of all the operators within the area is requested in order to ensure that their employees and customers are aware of this ‘free’ service.
FOLLOWING THE INTRODUCTION OF THE NATIONAL STANDARD WASTE COLLECTING SCHEME, THE FOUNDATION HAD SEVERAL MEETINGS WITH GOVERNMENT AUTHORITIES IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT THE NEW WASTE-COLLECTION SYSTEM IS INTRODUCED AS SMOOTHLY AS POSSIBLE.
As from the 1st February 2023 we were directed to adopt the same system. Due to this a robust marketing campaign was kicked off. The Foundation designed a leaflet with all the information about this new waste collection scheme and hard copy leaflets with the new schedule were distributed by Malta Post to all the operators within the CBD zones. In the meantime, a soft copy was also circulated to all operators. Information about the new service was also published on CBD Website and CBD Mobile App – Waste Collection CBD. It is encouraging to note that following this, the Foundation received a high number of queries and clarification requests for this new schedule. In order to avoid that the zone will become once again a dumping mess, the Foundation came into agreement with Government Entities responsible for National waste collection in order to continue to provide the Sunday collection services including sweeping. This is one day over and above the national schedule and will guarantee that the CBD is kept as clean as possible.
