Installation of CCTV’s in strategic areas

WE ARE HAPPY TO REPORT THE COMPLETION OF 4 SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS WHICH THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT FOUNDATION WAS WORKING ON DURING THE PAST MONTHS. THESE PROJECTS INCLUDE CCTV CLUSTERS, THE INSTALLATION OF THE FIRST BATCH OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGERS, DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE, WHILST THE STORM WATER PROJECT IS TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN THE COMING DAYS. THIS NEWSLETTER WILL FOCUS IN SOME DETAIL ON THESE 4 INITIATIVES:

The first phase of the installation of clusters of CCTVs in Triq L-Esportaturi, Triq San Gwakkin and Triq is-Salib ta L-Imriehel has been completed. The project involved consultations and co-ordination with various public entities including Transport Malta, the Commissioner for Data Protection, MITA, the Police and LESA. A big thank you is also due to the third-party owners who have kindly offered the use of their façade for the installation of these cameras as well as access to their electricity supply; and in the meantime saving the Foundation considerable time and money. The cameras will be monitored by LESA head-quarters 24X7 and access to footage given to the Police on duty at the Central Business District should this be requested.

Storm Water Project

Storm Water Project phases 2 and 3 are now nearing conclusion. Road re-building works were carried out in Triq l-Intornjatur, Triq Giovanni Felice, Triq il-Haddiema, Triq l-Ghajn tan-Nofs and Triq il-Birrerija with only the asphalt surface layer pending and which will be laid imminently. The project involved complex infrastructural interventions, with continuous co-ordination with TM, IM and the various operators situated in and in the vicinity of the respective roads. Every possible measure was taken by the CBDF to mitigate the adverse effects of the works on the impacted operators, including scheduling full road closures in the weekends and certain works were done at night.

EV Charging Stations

All 7 fast charging EV Pillars are now installed in their respective locations and have been activated for public use. New applications have been made to the Planning Authority for the installation of another 7 medium charging pillars in different areas of the CBD. This means that currently there is a capacity for 14 electric vehicles to be charged simultaneously using public infrastructure and this capacity is planned to double when the medium chargers are in place. It is hoped that the installation of the next batch of EV pillars is complete by the end of the year. This project is being done in conjunction with the Ministry for Environment, Energy and Enterprise.

Directional Signage

A total of 16 Directional Signs have been installed in strategic points on the boundary of the Central Business District and also in some strategic locations within the CBD. It is to be noted that the signs include only the names of the Founders of the CBDF.
