Waste Collection

DURING THE FIRST 8 MONTHS OF THIS YEAR, OVER 566,000 KILOS OF WASTE WERE COLLECTED FROM THE DISTRICT.

The composition of the waste was as follows:
9,170 kilos – Organic Waste
338,200 kilos – Mixed Waste
219,125 kilos – Recycling Waste

When compared to 2023, a significant increase in all waste streams is noted. Although every operator is expected by law to organize his own collection of waste, the CBDF still has to finance and organize the collection of thousands of tonnes of waste per month to keep the area clean. Better observation of the law and regulations on the collection and disposal of waste is urged and operators are again reminded to ensure that they have their own arrangements in place for waste collection. We also take this opportunity to appeal to all operators to reduce, reuse and
recycle waste whenever possible. We all need to do our part in order to safeguard the environment.

Temporary Parkingr

IT IS A WELL-KNOWN FACT THAT LACK OF PARKING SPACES IS AN ISSUE WITHIN THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT.

Although the Foundation has not managed to secure an extension of the lease of the temporary parking at Triq it-Territorjals, it is working on alternative options, short and longer term, to make other parking spaces available to the Founders and their employees. Interested operators have already been informed of an initial number of car parking spaces that have become available, and the Foundation is currently awaiting their feedback. We would like to take this opportunity to appeal to all operators, not just our Founders, to approach the Foundation should they need long-term parking spaces for their employees.

Embellishment Works

THE IMPORTANCE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT NOT ONLY AT A NATIONAL LEVEL BUT ALSO WITH RESPECT TO THE RAPID DEVELOPMENT TAKING PLACE WITHIN THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT CANNOT BE OVERSTATED.

In this regard, the Foundation is working on a medium-term project in collaboration with Project Green and has identified 2 ‘small’ tracts of land, one Government owned and the other privately owned which are suitable for embellishment in the short term. We also appeal to private landowners in the district to approach the Foundation for the possibility of cooperation in embellishing their vacant land which is not earmarked for development in the short term. This invitation is also extended to those owners who have developed or semi-developed plots of land and wish to do some sort of ‘greening’ intervention to embellish.
