Our Founders range from large enterprises which employ more than 250 employees, medium sized enterprises which employ from 50 to 250 employees, small enterprises which employ more than 10 but less than 50 employees as well as micro enterprises which employ less than 10 people. It is noted that our members represent a good cross-section of the enterprises working within the CBDF. In addition to these individual members, the Chamber of SMEs which is also a member of our Board, collectively represents more than 200 operators within the CBD.

It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the new CEO of the Central Business District Foundation. Following a selection process through an open call, I was appointed CEO with effect from 1st December, 2023. It has been my choice to take up this appointment at the onset of the festive season as traditionally, it is a period where day to day administrative and operational duties tend to slow down, which would leave me with more time to understand better the role and functions of the CBDF as well as more time to engage with the small but hardworking team at the Foundation.

September 2023 Issue 30

We are happy to report that phases 2 & 3 of this project have reached their respective conclusions. Final ancillary works were carried out and the road build up concluded in affected roads such as Triq Giovanni Felice, Triq l-Intornjatur, Triq il-Birrerija & part of Triq il-Haddiema by the application of the Surface Asphalt Layer in Mid-September. Every possible measure was taken by the CBDF to mitigate the adverse effects of the works on the impacted operators.

July 23 Issue 29

The first phase of the installation of clusters of CCTVs in Triq L-Esportaturi, Triq San Gwakkin and Triq is-Salib ta L-Imriehel has been completed. The project involved consultations and co-ordination with various public entities including Transport Malta, the Commissioner for Data Protection, MITA, the Police and LESA. A big thank you is also due to the third-party owners who have kindly offered the use of their façade for the installation of these cameras as well as access to their electricity supply; and in the meantime saving the Foundation considerable time and money.

The CBDF has published on the EPPS, the Government E-procurement platform, a Preliminary Market Consultation (PMC) entitled Lease of a Property/ies for the Temporary Parking of Motor Vehicles.  The Unique ID of the PMC is CBD/PMC/01/2023.

Diversion Due To Road Works

Next Monday 29th May, road build up and asphalt reinstatement of Triq l-Intornjatur (from Triq San Gwakkin up to Forestals showroom) shall start to take place. In order to avoid full road closure and minimize disruption as much as possible, the works are to be divided into 2 different phases where the  1st phase will see the reinstatement of half of Triq l-Intornjatur on the side adjacent to the  Mriehel Bypass.  Immediately after this half of the road is completed, re-instatement of the other side adjacent to operators such as Carmelo Abela etc. shall take place.

After 2 consecutive 3 month trial periods, the Board has approved the extension of the pilot project for a period of one year up to April 2024. At the launch of the pilot project service, a marketing campaign was launched using google advertising and Lovin Malta portal; digital flyers and leaflets were sent to each and every operator in the area and a number of posters put up in strategic locations.

ROUTES 51, 52 & 53 MRIEHEL DIVERSION

Route buses coming from VALLETTA/ Fleur-de-Lys going towards RABAT have to divert from FLEUR-DE-LYS roundabout (from near BOV Head office) by turning left through TRIQ IL-KANUN then when reaching ‘HSBC HEAD OFFICE’ turn right to TRIQ IL-MITHNA and at the next roundabout turn right again to MRIEHEL BY-PASS to continue the normal route towards ATTARD.

Storm Water Project

As per previous communication the second phase of the storm water project in Triq L-Intornjatur is currently underway. Works are accordingly to the original plan. In fact, next Monday 31st of October we shall continue the works in Triq il-Birrerija (lower part).
