An opportunity to become a member with the Mrieħel Enterprise Zone Foundation

PROPOSED SCHEME RULES 2017 – 2019

The Mrieħel Enterprise Zone Foundation was established by means of a public deed entered into on 3rd March 2016. This deed was entered into by the Government and 18 private sector participants. This deed allows the Board of Administrators to issue Scheme Rules to allow further private sector participants to join the Foundation. The Board of Administrators is currently drafting such Scheme Rules for private sector participants to become additional founders of the Foundation. These Scheme Rules will be launched in 2017 during an AGM to be announced for the beginning of 2017 and will be valid for the next three years.

The new Scheme Rules will provide that endowments granted to the Foundation must be made for the purposes of the Foundation and made by a person showing some connection to the Mriehel Enterprise Zone Area. Endowments will be irrevocable, non-refundable and may not be subject to any conditions.

Upon payment of an endowment, a private sector participant subscribes to the deed of the Foundation and becomes an additional founder, forming part of the private sector group. Such participant will enjoy all rights of Founders and will have the right to nominate people for appointment as an Administrator and to participate in elections for the appointment of such Administrators. Furthermore, such participant will be entitled to receive information about the Foundation and exercise the decisions which must be taken by the Founders.

If a Founder decides not to pay an endowment for a particular year, such Founder will lose all his rights from that particular year. However, should such Founder choose to pay such endowment retroactively, his rights as a founder will be reactivated.

Public Transport Questionnaire

A SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED AMONG INDIVIDUALS WORKING IN MRIEĦEL WITH RESPECT TO PUBLIC TRANSPORT. AROUND 1500 TO 2000 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED.

From an initial sample of 534 surveys slightly more than three quarters of respondents (77%) utilise their own transport. Four in every five respondents (81%) never use Public Transport to go to work. Almost half of the respondents (47%) claimed that there is nothing which would encourage them to make use of Public Transport. The aspects which were mentioned the most (43% of respondents) were reliability, efficiency and frequency. Another 19% claimed that direct routes from their hometowns to Mrieħel would encourage them to make use of Public Transport.

THE FOUNDATION TOGETHER WITH THE PUBLIC TRANSPORT AUTHORITY IS WORKING TOGETHER IN ORDER TO ADDRESS SUCH ISSUES AND IMPROVE THE SERVICE WITH RESPECT TO THE MRIEHEL AREA.
