Traffic Management Plan – Mrieħel

Update

TRANSPORT MALTA, ON BEHALF OF THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT FOUNDATION, ENGAGED A CONTRACTOR TO INSTALL ALL SIGNAGE AND ROAD MARKINGS RELATING TO THE NEW TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT ZONE.

Works are currently ongoing and will be completed by mid-October. These new arrangements will be accompanied by the provision of new car park spaces in a site adjacent to Alter Domus and Homemate. Following several discussions with Transport Malta it was agreed that the new traffic management arrangements will kick off on the 22nd October 2018 and a number of TM Enforcement Officers will be on site to guide and educate motorist on the new arrangements. The Foundation is working with the authorities to have permanent officers on site to gradually enforce the area in our efforts to organize traffic in Mriehel further.

It is inevitable that challenges will arise and for this reason we ask you to contact Transport Malta at info.tm@transport.gov.mt for further clarifications.

TEMPORARY PARKING

DURING THE LAST TWO YEARS THERE WERE SEVERAL DISCUSSIONS WITH PRIVATE LAND OWNERS TO DEDICATE THEIR LAND FOR CAR PARK SPACES. THE INVOLVEMENT OF LAND OWNERS IS NECESSARY BECAUSE THERE IS VERY LITTLE PUBLIC LAND IN THE AREA.

The Foundation wishes to announce that it has finally managed to secure an agreement with a private land owner to transform 5,300 square meters of private land into a temporary parking for public use. This land is in the heart of Mriehel and was leased to the Foundation for 3 years. The site will be managed by a competent operator.

Following the lease agreement, the Foundation started working on the site by cleaning and then compacting the ground using existing material. All these works were funded by the Foundation. In the meantime all permits with Planning Authority are being secured.

The car park will start operating in the last week of September for a nominal fee of €2.50 per vehicle per day from Monday to Friday from 6am till 6pm and Saturdays from 7am till 12pm.
